Attention is my practice

This is the story of how I started to pay attention.
Once upon a time I was a stay at home Mom with 2 young kids and loss of self. I heard about a writing group in town where the teacher reads you poetry, feeds you tea and chocolate and only says nice things about your writing. I took the class and started to find things I love - walking, other people's stories, the smell of a prevent hedge blooming in June, the color purple at the edge of a field (okay, that one is Alice Walker). After a few years, I started journaling to keep up this practice of paying attention and noticing. When I pay attention, I notice what brings me joy and nourishes. Simple.
From The Color Purple:
"I think it pisses God off
if you walk by the color purple
in a field somewhere
and don't notice it."
